Mixtape 1996

1996 was another stellar year for music. Electronica continued its path to world domination, seeping inevitably into the mainstream, with every major rock band in the world employing the talents of top DJ's like Sasha, BT and Paul Oakenfeld to apply an electronic shimmer to their remixes.
Tupac released his seminal double album, All Eyez On Me which went platinum in just 4 hours.
Lisa Marie Presley filed for divorce from Michael Jackson, leaving an entire nation....unsurprised. And Pulp's Jarvis Cocker interrupted a Jackson performance at the BRIT awards, attempting to debunk the icon's perceived Christ-like self reverence.
It was also the year that Everything but the Girl released Missing which I think might be the best break up song of all time. And I should know, having been through a fair few in my time!
Here's the soundtrack to my year...
